Our Opportunity

As we continue to grow, our company is currently accepting Survey Field Technologist applications for existing projects in various sectors such as Municipal, Heavy Industrial, Power Distribution, etc.

As a Survey Field Technologist with Lawson, you will conduct a broad range of field surveys, including construction, topographic, volumetric, preliminary planning, design, control and quality assurance. Responsibilities include accurately recording measurements and other data, preparing field notes, quality control for survey work, and compiling and computing survey data. Depending upon your experience, you may be called upon to assist in the RFP process of contract procurement, conduct field training, supervise, and provide mentorship to junior staff.

Our Requirements

  • Two-year diploma in Geomatics, Survey or Municipal Technology from an institute of recognized standing (equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered on an individual basis). Eligibility for registration as a Technologist is an asset.
  • Minimum five (5) years directly related experience of which two years must be in the lead role of a survey field crew.
  • Comprehensive understanding of theory, limitations and use of total and total robotic stations, electronic field books, precision verticality and leveling instruments, global positioning system (GPS) equipment (RTK), laser alignment equipment and other surveying equipment that may be used.
  • Proficient ability to communicate diplomatically and effectively, both orally and in writing, with co-workers, clients and other contractors.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering drawings, specifications, standards and construction methods.
  • Experience with Topcon and Trimble survey instrumentations and software is an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of identifying and evaluating survey control monuments.
  • Working knowledge of cadastral survey fabric is an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of survey computations including adjustment computations and the derivation of coordinates in various coordinate systems.
  • Working knowledge of contract administration including the application for payment and certification of work process is an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of personal computers including the use of COGO, GPS software applications and AutoCAD, including drafting principals and standards.
  • Physically capable of performing the duties of the position, with a willingness to work in remote sites in adverse weather conditions.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.

This role is designated as a safety sensitive position.
